The contest is simple: participants will select their favourite book, and have a chance to win one of several prizes. A list of the selected books will later be put up at the library. Prizes include library tote bags and gift certificates.

The library will also be talking about its new web site — with special emphasis on a new program for teenagers. “There’s going to be information about the new online teen reading club,” said librarian Benoit Morin.

The teen summer reading club will be paper-free, completely online, with a dedicated message board on the library web page. The theme of the book club will be 'metamorphosis', and the library will have a list of suggested books that relate to the theme. But readers won’t be limited to the library’s list; teens will be able to read and post about any book they like. Posting a review will give the reviewer a chance to win a prize.

The library will also feature a craft session and two games nights for teens over the summer, featuring the video game Rock Band. More information about the reading club can be found at www.westlib.org or at the library on Family Day.

The Children’s Department will also be taking part in Family Day. The Summer Reading Club will launch that day, and children will be able to hunt through the park for talking mouse Geronimo Stilton. The theme for this year’s program, focussing on the animal kingdom, is “Go Wild, Read!”

The library is looking forward to the activities on Family Day. “It’s an opportunity to talk to people, and have a different kind of contact outside the library,” said Morin. “And to reach the people who live in the area but don’t come to the library.”
